4th Alarm Assignment in Somerville: EFFD responds to 5 calls both in Fire District #3 and Fire District #1 with 2 staffed rigs

On Tuesday, June 4th, 2024 at approximately 1418 hrs. Car 273 and Squad 27 responded Mutual Aid to 6 West Main Street in Somerville, for a 4th alarm structure fire assignment. While responding as a Rapid Intervention Team, the crew was re-assigned to assist in Fire Suppression efforts by Incident Command.

Units spent over 5 hours on the scene assisting Somerville Fire Department, as well as multiple other mutual aid agencies in Fire Suppression efforts at a stubborn fire. Fire suppression strategies changed from interior to exterior attack, while crew members were battling hot weather conditions. While responding back to Fire District #3 after being cleared from the fire scene, Squad 27 handled a motor vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Culver Street/East Cliff Street in Somerville.

As Squad 27 and Car 273 operated in Somerville, Station 27 staffed two additional apparatus (Engine 272 and Ladder 27). Engine 272 and Ladder 27 responded to 5 additional calls for service in Fire District #3 and Fire District #1 while units were operating in Somerville. In total, units were tied up providing Fire Protection Services to both Fire District #3 and Mutual Aid Jurisdictions volunteering their time, away from their families for nearly 6 hours.

Thank you to our dedicated volunteers for all you do for Franklin Twp. Fire District #3, it’s residents and commuting public.
