District responds to 2nd alarm basement fire on Douglas Avenue

On Saturday, October 14th, 2023 at approximately 1518 hour, Franklin Twp. Fire District #3 was dispatched to 27 Douglas Ave for a basement fire.

Engine 253 arrived 1st due, locating a residential dwelling with heavy black smoke showing from the first floor front and sides of the building. D/C 25 requested a 2nd alarm, bringing additional resources to the scene.

Chief 25 arrived and command was transferred. The crew of Engine 253 stretched a 200’ 2” attack line to the rear bilco doors. The crew made entry locating a room and contents fire in the basement, quickly knocking the fire and performing a primary search.

Car 27 arrived and assumed operations. Ladder 27 arrived, laid a supply line to Engine 253, and raised the aerial as an additional means egress. The crew from Ladder 27 also performed a primary search of the first and second floor.

There was no extension outside of the fire room and the scene was quickly under control. Additional units on scene were Ladder 25, Car 273, Engine 272, Engine 27, Squad 27, New Brunswick’S Engine and Ladder, North Brunswick Engine 3, Middlebush Engine 441, Somerset Car 56 and Rescue 56.

Station 27 had a total of 20 Firefighters on scene. Thank you to the cover companies who stood by for us and handled a 2nd call for a CO alarm in the district on Matilda Avenue.
