LIVE FIRE TRAINING

On Tuesday evening East Franklin emptied the station to attend the first live fire training drill of the year. Three engines the squad and the chiefs vehicle carried 27 active members to the Somerset County Fire Academy for a back to basics style drill. Because of the number of people in attendance instructors had two fires burning simultaneously one on each side of the burn building. Members were split into four crews with one fire attack crew and one search crew working together on each burn. Crews rotated between the fires as well as the crew assignments and were able to get in 6 burns before the evening was over. Throughout this year duty crews have been drilling weekly on subjects such as accountability hose evolutions ladders radio communications SCBA confidence pump operations and search rescue. This burn put these smaller drills together in a live fire situation and the outcome was a success allowing officers and members alike to get a feel for each others abilities and practice together as a team. In addition to the 27 members 25 of which have a minimum FFI certification six other members were in fire school classes Tuesday with three members in Firefighter I and three members in Firefighter II. Below are some photos from the drill as well as pictures of the duty crew members that were in attendance.
