MVC involving raised dump truck body and surrounding residential utilities

On Thursday, October 12th, 2023 at approximately 13:56 hrs. Franklin Twp. Fire District #3 was dispatched to the area of Matilda Avenue and Lewis Street, for a report of wires down that were actively smoking after a motor vehicle collision.

Squad 27 was 1st due. Chief 27 arrived shortly thereafter, established command and reported a tandem dump truck left it’s body raised up, taking down a utility pole and numerous wires off surrounding structures. The primary lines were still connected and burning a telephone pole.

PSEG was requested, later arrived and secured power to the primary lines. PSEG stood by, while an additional crew responded to remove the wires from the truck and install 2 new utility poles.

Additional fire units on scene were Ladder 27. All fire department units cleared in approximately one hour without further incident.
