VEHICLE FIRE ON VICTOR STREET

On Tuesday afternoon at 1550 hrs Fire Dist 3 was dispatched to the report of a box truck on fire on Victor Street near Millstone Road. Car 27 Chief Krushinski was the 1st to arrive and establish command. He reported to incoming units that a 22 passenger limo type bus was fully involved. Car 25 Chief Ries arrived next and Chief Krushinski transferred command to Chief Ries while he established the operations sector and geared up. Engine 251 was the first engine company to arrive and Chief Krushinski and Lt. D. Wilson of Engine 251 stretched 200 feet of two inch attack hose to extinguish the fire. The bus was primarily fiberglass construction causing it to burn hot and fast. On their arrival the crew off Engine 274 brought tools to assist with overhaul and containment of the fire. The fire was quickly knocked and brought under control. It was contained to the bus with minor extension to a utility pole. Several of the probationary members from Station 25 27 were given some hands on training of overhaul since they had to stand back and watch while the fire was extinguished. The heavy plume of black smoke generated by the fire could be seen for miles and several neighboring towns were also dispatched before the location of the fire was known.
